Asaan Museum by Zaha Hadid Brings Sustainable Architecture to Saudi Arabia

The Asaan Museum, also known as the Misk Heritage Museum, is an upcoming cultural landmark in Diriyah, near Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Designed by the renowned Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA), this project is part of the expansive Diriyah Gate masterplan, aixming to celebrate and preserve Saudi Arabia’s rich heritage.

Embracing sustainable architecture, the museum will be constructed using traditional adobe (mud brick), reflecting the historic Najdi architectural style. The three-story structure will feature thick, insulating walls and three shaded courtyards, providing natural cooling in the desert climate. Additional design elements include shaded gardens, plazas, and rooftop promenades, all aimed at enhancing visitor comfort and sustainability.

The Asaan Museum is set to become a significant addition to Saudi Arabia’s cultural landscape, blending modern design with traditional materials to create a space that honors the past while looking to the future. Construction has commenced, with completion expected by 2030.
