Toyota introduces Human Support Robot for disabled person

To help the disabled person and to live them independently, Toyota has introduced an assistant robot featured with latest initiative of Toyota’s Partner Robot program.  This robot is called Human Support Robot (HSR) and can help the disabled person around the home by performing various activities like opening curtains, picking the things fallen at floor etc.

The HSR is controlled through graphical user interface via tablet PC.  HSR can also wear a tablet to allow the other family members to communicate with it via Skype or other services.  To perform the simple tasks the HSR has an arm and gripper unlike the recent announce telepresence robots like iRobot RP-Vita.

 

The HSR has height of 2.7 to 4.3 feet enabling him to pick the things from floor or counters.  Its arm length is 2.5 feet and has been designed to fold in tightly to minimize the body diameter up to 14.5 inches.  Its arm can use little power and move slowly to save itself from accidents and injuries.

The HSR weight is 70 lbs and is capable to pick things having weight up to 2.6 lbs with its simple two –fingered gripper.
