Goodyear Unveils its rechargeable Concept Tire

Founded in 1898 by Frank Seiberling, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company is an American multinational tire manufacturing company based in Akron, Ohio. Goodyear manufactures tires for automobiles, commercial trucks, light trucks, motorcycles, SUVs, race cars, airplanes, farm equipment and heavy earth-mover machinery. About 66 years ago, they invented the first commercial tubeless tire.

Now, the same company has presented a revolutionary different concept of tire   manufacturing and maintenance in this age of electric mobility.  Though electric vehicles required low maintenance as compared with petroleum fueled vehicles, however the usage and maintenance of tire is same for any type of vehicle.

There is an automatic system in wheel through which, from a central capsule a special compound is uniformly injected into tire tread according to necessity of user by pushing a button or using a mobile app to recover the tire tread, with replaceable compound that let you adjust the compound mix as per your needs. Having a la Michelin’s iconic Tweel design, the wheel itself have some bend built into it, to replace the smooth ride offered by an airy tire. The hub keeps an opening in the middle to install a new tread capsule into.

By using a computerized intelligence system, compounds would be designed for usage of each drivers based on condition of the road and climate . The tread compound is made from biological materials which is reinforced with fibers and keeps biodegradable characteristics.

We are not sure, the compound would get from the hub out to the exterior or the tread gets equally pushed out though car’s whole weight is resting on wheel, but suppose it works perfectly. Theoretically, the recharge wheel could bloat extra tread at the press of a button if you’re heading off-road or even perhaps retract it some to minimize your rolling resistance and increase speed on the road.

It is an interesting concept to consider because in fact, by the time mobility sources take over to the degree that we need to start thinking about new tire solutions   but perhaps it’s some early to renovate the wheel.
