Mercedes-AMG One deletes Porsche 911 GT2 RS Record

With a GT Black Series time of 6:48.047, Mercedes-AMG bested Lamborghini as the fastest production car at the Nürburgring Nordschleife two years ago. The news was excellent for the AMG team, especially as they were hard at work developing the even more powerful 1,000-hp One street-legal race car. When the Porsche 911 GT2 RS roared back to the top of the field in 2021 with a time of 6:43.300, Mercedes lost the championship. However, the Mercedes-AMG One F1 to highway hypercar needs to leave the garage and demonstrate its capabilities now that it is 2022. And boy did it ever, knocking off several seconds from Porsche’s record-breaking time.

Despite spending a longer time in the womb than most, the Mercedes-AMG One is already making excellent progress. The One rolled out its Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R MO tyres on the revered North Loop asphalt in late October and lapped the 12.944-mile (20.832-km) circuit in a record-breaking 6:35.183, less than six months after making its formal debut in production form (five long years later). On the conventional, slightly shorter 12.8-mile (20.5-km) Sport Auto magazine “Super Test” Nordschleife track version, Mercedes reports a time of 6:30.705.
